The firm started when Yusuke Komatsu, of counsel to the firm, started a firm focusing on international legal practice in the 1960's. The firm was established in its present form in 1979 by Mr. Komatsu, Keisuko Komatsu, who already had considerable experience in domestic litigation, and Fumio Koma, who had been handling primarily international finance and general corporate matters. Thereafter, Yasunori Hashiguchi, who is engaged primarily in intellectual property, entertainment, and advertising related matters, and Shingo Hisata, who primarily handles China-related matters, joined as partners. Finally, in 1995, the firm added Tomoo Nishikawa as a partner. Mr. Nishikawa had been a partner for many years in another large law firm; he is engaged primarily in international finance, particularly aircraft leasing, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
